Pipeline reviews worth having

Swap deal interrogation for deal strategy and your forecast gets more honest fast.

Sales leaders in a pipeline review

If your pipeline review is a list of deals and a set of dates being defended, you're running a status meeting. Sellers learn to bring answers that end the questioning rather than answers that are true.

Interrogation produces optimism

Pressure applied to a forecast number pushes risk underground. Ask instead what evidence exists that this buyer is going to change something, and the conversation moves from opinion to fact.

  • Review fewer deals in more depth rather than every deal in name only.
  • Ask what the buyer has done, not what they've said.
  • Name the single biggest risk on each deal out loud.
  • Leave with an action for the manager, not just the seller.

A forecast is a by-product of good deal strategy, not a substitute for it.
